ANDY will also make a national TV appearance as special guest on VH1's "Top 20 Countdown" airing this weekend (8/9 and 8/10). He will discuss the new project as well as air a portion of the music video for "Back Home" which was recently added to the channel's regular rotation.
MAGAZINES OR NOVELS encompasses 12 new songs all written or co-written by GRAMMER, reinforcing his place among the male pop artist elite through honest reflections of the impressive ride he's been on during the past couple of years. Positive reviews continue coming in for the album and critics are praising ANDY for his refreshingly open approach. Huffington Post raved MAGAZINES OR NOVELS is "a smashing sophomore album" and the "emotionally complex collection of songs…displays a level of consistent creativity and continued talent from Andy Grammer." (8/1/14) SheKnows.com noted that the album is "a testament to Grammer's surprisingly bold pen game, with lyrics that read like entries from a deeply personal journal," (8/4/14) while YouNerded.com wrote, "With killer hooks and life-like topics, you may fall in love…His lyrics are both inspiring and true, but with an around the way breeze that's both fun and energetic as well as relatively personal." (8/4/14) ConfrontMagazine.com touted, "this record shows a great amount of growth…While some of the subject matter has changed and matured, the new album continues to show Andy's optimistic view on life with his feel-good, upbeat songs that instantly put a smile on your face." (8/5/14)
MusicRadar.com agrees, praising "a grander, denser, more introspective but no less engaging construct than its predecessor. But whereas Grammer's breezy melodies once tended to interlock with briskly strummed guitars, more and more they now work off subtle hip-hop beats and electronics...The bevy of revved-up hooks throughout Magazines or Novel's 12 tracks would indicate that Grammer's newfound mindset has paid off." (8/5/14) ANDY, who has toured extensively since the 2011 release of his debut self-titled album, shared with MusicRadar.com his Top 7 Tour Survival Tips. Read the article here.
ANDY recently sat down with CBS' Radio.com to explain the inspiration behind the new direction of this album. "I'm going to try to go more after humanity and more after honesty and hopefully people will feel that and it will pull them in the way I've been pulled into other artists. It was a little scary to go after exactly what I wanted sonically because I knew it was such a departure but I love it. I think people will follow you if it's what you love."
