MUSIC NEWS: The Deadmen Release Debut EP!

Emerging Washington, DC folk-rock collective The Deadmenreleased their debut EP today via 8 Gang Switch. The five-song record is a diverse array of indie-folk, Americana and anthemic rock & roll that reminds us that popular music can indeed have a soul. The EP’s lead single “Let Your Fingers Rule” premiered earlier this year on My Old Kentucky Blog and set the stage for the band’s relatable self-reflection and soulful soundscapes. You can stream the EP now on Soundcloud <hyperlinked> and purchase it on Amazon and most of your other favorite streaming services.

The Deadmen consists of Josh Read (guitar/vocals), Justin Jones (guitar/vocals), Justin Hoben (guitar/vocals), John Hutchins (bass) & Mike Smirnoff (drums).  Although the three primary songwriters (Read, Jones and Hoben) all cut their teeth on the same DC stages, they come from vastly different origins. While Jones was raised in rural Virginia and Hoben drifted from New England, Read hails from South Africa. This unique mix of backgrounds is reflected in their differing writing styles.  And yet, the three compliment each other to stunning affect; painting an American landscape of clattering thunder, gentle rains and shards of light.

The Deadmen are celebrating the release of their debut EP with a hometown gig at The Rock & Roll Hotel in D.C. Saturday night and a show at Gallery 788 in Baltimore the following night.  The Deadmen will perform select dates in the U.S. and tour the United Kingdom this summer ahead of their much-anticipated full-length release. “We have more than enough material” says Hoben.  “We’ll be bringing the music to the people, one way or another.”
