EMMA WATSON STARS IN “THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER." ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK STARS DAVID BOWIE AND THE SMITHS.

Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE company, Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records have announced the upcoming release of "THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK," the musical companion to the highly anticipated new Summit Entertainment/Mr. Mudd Productions film.   The soundtrack arrives in stores and at all online retailers on Tuesday, September 18th. The Perks of Being A Wallflower opens in select theatres on September 21st.

"THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK" gathers 12 songs that feature prominently in the film, a funny and touching coming of age story based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky.  Among the highlights are classic tracks by such hugely influential artists as David Bowie, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Galaxie 500, XTC, Dexys Midnight Runners, New Order, and many others.  In addition, the album features a portion of the film's poignant score, composed by legendary guitarist Michael Brook.

"THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK" was Executive Produced by Gillian Bohrer; Soundtrack Album Producers are Chop Shop Music Supervision owner Alexandra Patsavas, Paul Katz (of Eye2Ear Music), and author Stephen Chbosky, who also wrote and directed the film.

"Over many years, I have collected songs," Chbosky writes in the album's liner notes.  "I've shared them with friends.  And they have shared their favorites with me.  Some of the songs are popular.  Some of them are not known by a whole lot of people.  But they are all great in their own way.  And since these songs have meant a lot to me, I just wanted you to have them as a soundtrack for whatever you need them to be for your life."

An immediate classic upon its 1999 release, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower touched a generation with Chbosky's semi-autobiographical tale of Charlie, a shy high school freshman and the eponymous wallflower of the novel's title.  Set in the early 1990s, the epistolary novel is told through a series of letters written by the unconventional Charlie to an anonymous friend, confiding all the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up.  The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a moving tale of love, loss, fear and hope – and the unforgettable friends that help us through life.

Summit Entertainment/Mr. Mudd Productions' The Perks Of Being A Wallflower stars Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Three Musketeers), Emma Watson (the Harry Potter film series), Ezra Miller (We Need To Talk About Kevin, Californication), Mae Whitman, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott and Nina Dobrev. The film was written and directed by Stephen Chbosky, who adapted his own best-selling novel. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
