Jessie and the Toy Boys on Tour with Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj. - Interview

Jessie and the Toy Boys are currently on tour with Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj. Jessie recently stopped by to talk about her music, her look and what it is is like to tour with none other than Britney Spears.

Q - How did you get involved with music?

A - There was a piano in my home growing up. I used to take my poems and sit at the piano and turn them into really basic, almost nursery rhyme type songs. From there I practiced a lot and got better.

Q - Where did the name Jessie and The Toy Boys come from?

A - I came up with the concept of having a band with plastic band mates because I write all of my songs and handle all creative direction, so I didn't want anyone else's ego getting in the way of my vision. I make mood boards of everything that I want to accomplish and one day looking at the mood boards and listening to a song I wrote last June called "Summer Boy," it all kind of came together.

Q - From the outside you look like the typical pop star but you're actually far different. How would you describe your act and sound?

A - Thanks. Well, I think my background in the music business has a lot to do with how and why I sound the way I do. I started out in a rock/rap girl band playing gigs for 6 1/2 people in shitty bars in Hollywood. After a while I left the band and moved to London to make underground dance records. I got really into the South London Grime/dub step scene and really into Brit-pop and French electro. I think when you create something you naturally pull from experience. My music is definitely a big slice of Pop, but it's got electro/punk rock/dubsteppy sprinkles on top.

Q - You're currently on tour with Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj. How did this come about?

A - I willed it.

Q - What has it been like touring with one of the biggest pop stars ever?

A - It's an incredible experience. I'm a massive fan of both Britney and Nicki. To be asked to be a Femme Fatale and share the stage with such superstars has definitely been the highlight of my career so far. It's an amazing ride and I'm having so much fun meeting and making new fans along the way.

Q - Who were your influences growing up?

A - I loved TLC, Letters To Cleo and No Doubt. I would listen to a lot of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, and of course Britney and Christina and the whole Millennium pop thing! I was definitely the little girl waiting in line to buy the NSYNC album the day it came out. I've always been a fan of pop.

Q - If I were to turn on your iPod, which artist would be on there that may come across as a surprise to fans?

A - I don't know, Dolly Parton maybe? I actually love country music.

Q - I hope to see you on tour. Is there anything you wanted to add?

A - Just wanna say thank you for the support! Appreciate it!
