Erikka Innes Likes to Have ‘Sex with Nerds.’ – Interview

Erikka Innes’ new comedy album is called “Sex with Nerds.” The comedian recently stopped by to talk stand-up, the new album and whether or not she is having sex with nerds or she is a nerd people are having sex with.

Q – Thank you, Erikka, for doing this.

A - Thank you, this is fun! :)

Q – Why did you decide to go into stand-up?

A - My mom noticed I was a compulsive smart ass and suggested I figure out a way to turn it into a career. So here I am. I may be the only comedian with a career in comedy because my mother told me to try it.

Q – Describe your act for those who have yet to discover you.

A - My act is observations about life from the perspective of someone (me) with the mind of a teenage boy trapped in the body of a smart, attractive woman (still me).

Q – I haven’t had the chance to listen to your new album, “Sex With Nerds.” Are you having sex with nerds or are you a nerd we should be having sex with?

A - Both! Though not on the album. Sex on albums is awkward. You can interpret that a variety of ways and that's okay with me.

Q – When you record an album, are you picking and choosing which jokes make the cut? How do you determine what material make the CD?

A - Some albums, people choose the best version of their jokes and string those together. If I had lots of money I think I might do that too. But I don't, so it's just a couple of kick ass sets back to back, no sweetening.

Q – Years ago, it didn’t seem like there were a lot of comedians, much less a lot of venues to perform stand-up. Do you think that stand-up comedy is oversaturated with all of the venues to perform, like cable, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, etc?

A - No. Wait do people still use MySpace? Wow. I bet there's a direct overlap between current MySpace users and people who still drive around in horse drawn carriages.

Q – Why has there been such an influx in stand-up comedy?

A - Probably because the economy sucks. If you're going to be poor, you might as well do something you love.

Q – Thanks again for talking to me. Is there anything you wanted to add?

A - Yes. Please buy my album.
