"Escape the Fate talks new album." – Interview

Back in November the band Escape the Fate released their third self titled album. The band worked with Buckcherry’s Josh Todd, Motley Crue’s Mick Mars and Rob Zombie’s John 5. Recently I got a chance to chat with front man Craig Mabbitt about working with the rock icons mentioned above as well as the new album and what the recipe is for a great Escape the Fate song.

Zoiks!: You recently released your newest, self titled, album how would you describe it?

Craig Mabbitt: In three words, I would describe it as “Escape The Fucking”, okay four words, “fate”

Z!: I was reading online that you worked with Mick Mars of Motley Crue and John 5 on a couple of songs. How did that come about and what was it like working with them?

CM: We worked with Josh Todd on a track called ten miles wide, Mick Mars heard it, and wanted to work with us. Great guy, really easy to work with. John 5 was interested in working with us when we were heading into the studio. Love the guy, looking forward to working with him again in the future!

Z!: What is your song writing process, do you have a designated songwriter, do you write as a band, how do your songs come together?

CM: Well you need to start with freshest of ideas, monte whips up some sweet riffy batter, stirs that up with some sweet solos, puts it in the oven we like to call production, and I get this meal, and like to add a little of my own flavor, you know, lyrics and melody. At the end, we package that sweet ass meal up, with our pretty ass faces on the cover, and send it out to the masses!

Z!: What can fans expect from your live show?

CM: To have a good time, we don’t even know what to expect every night, we just roll with it.

Z!: Speaking of live shows what was your first concert and how did it affect you?

CM: Linkin Park, Hoobastank, Cypress Hill, Mudvayne, and Adema. I remember leaving with my ears bleeding, and wanting to be that guy that is on the stage.

Z!: Who are some of your early influences?

CM: Aerosmith, Journey, Nirvana, Linkin Park, The Used.

Z!: Who are you listening to now?

CM: Anything that is good, actually the new A Day To Remember cd hasn’t left my car for over a month now!
