"Sky Ferreira brings her 'Obsession' to 'Vampire Diaries.'" - Interview

Sky Ferreira’s debut album doesn’t come out until next year. However, fans can get a jump start on the 18-year-old singer and actress because her single, “Obsession,” is on the “Vampire Diaries” soundtrack. Sky recently stopped by to talk about her debut album and how she got started in music.

Q – Sky, thanks for doing this.

A - Thanks for having me do this.

Q – You were discovered via MySpace. What was it about your profile that stood out?

A - Photos. I talked to everyone who commented and added me on my Music MySpace and hustled producers!

Q – The new single “Obsession” is on the “Vampire Diaries” soundtrack. How did you become involved with this project?

A - Luckily Vampyz and I are both on EMI. Well, their soundtrack is. I'm glad they took interest on putting me on the soundtrack. Totally appreciate it.

Q – Your debut album is scheduled for release next year. Tell me about the album.

A - It's taken almost 4 years to finish and release the album. It grew with me as I grew, if that makes sense. It was pretty much my whole "teen-hood." Some of it is sad, some of it is fun. I wrote pretty much all of it so it’s very personal whether it's a dance song or not.

Q – What do you want fans to take away from this album?

A - A little piece of Sky Ferreira, ha ha.

Q – You turned 18-years-old this year. For being so young you’ve accomplished a lot in your career. How do you go about staying grounded and not getting caught up with stardom and celebrity?

A - My mom has a big part of it. Stardom is fun, celebrity-ness is not really my thing. I promote my music and Sky Ferreira as an artist. Not Sky Ferreira as a person and who she dates and whatnot.

Q – Not only are you successful as a musician, you’ve also done some acting work. Which do you prefer?

A - I love both equally the same. At the moment I'm focused on my record, but if a great acting opportunity came up, I wouldn't pass. It's good to be a little bit of everything. I never wanted it to be singer gone actress or actress gone singer. Luckily I kind of did both at the same time.

Q – When it’s all said and done, what do you want to have accomplished in your life?

A - I just want to be creative and be happy... and as corny as it sounds, I want to keep being able to do what I love as a career; as all jobs should be.

Q – Thanks again for taking the time. Is there anything you wanted to add?

A - Thank you!
