"Rose A. Valenta's 'Sitting on Cold Porcelain' is perfect for any occasion." – Book Review

As you get older, you might find yourself spending more time in the bathroom. Perhaps you’re trying to escape your family and find some peace and quiet, or maybe you’ve followed your doctor’s orders to up your fiber intake. Either way, you’ve probably asked yourself, while perched on the toilet, “What shall I read?” Humor writer, Rose A. Valenta, has just the answer.

Valenta’s new book, “Sitting on Cold Porcelain,” is a collection of satirical essays that are just long enough to read during that “special time.” Valenta, a nationally syndicated columnist, covers a wide variety of topics including current events, sports and politics. She doesn’t shy away from poking fun of politicians either, and she writes about public figures on both sides, including Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and John Edwards.

Some of Valenta’s funniest moments come from her observations of everyday life. In one of her essays, she humorously critiques a Facebook group called “People That Haven’t Slept With Tiger Woods,” and in another, she details her ideas for implementing modern counter-terrorism techniques. Her proposals (which include things like replacing water-boarding and other violent methods with non-violent methods like subjecting suspects to Barry Manilow music) in the latter essay are not only funny, but useful.

Valenta’s clean and clever style of writing can be appreciated by readers of all ages. She approaches all of her topics with satirical insight and wit. Valenta’s essays are also the perfect length to not only be enjoyed while sitting on cold porcelain, but while you’re sitting on a warm couch, too.
