"'American Idol' needs another Adam Lambert or Kelly Clarkson to survive."

“American Idol” is on its last leg. With the departure of Simon Cowell and now Ellen DeGeneres, the high powered karaoke contest may not see a successful tenth season. Rumors swirled about the death of the show after season 9’s ratings were less than spectacular. Talent seems to be coming from YouTube and other social sites like MySpace, leaving the producers to change the rules to now allow 15 year old’s to enter.

What “American Idol” should do is use the two empty seats (Randy Jackson still has one year left on his contract dawg) and rotate in guest judges every week. One week it could be Prince, then Justin Timberlake, and then Gene Simmons, etc. The other revolving seat could be for up and coming stars, like Girl in a Coma, The Dollyrots and Kopek. “American Idol” has an opportunity to not only showcase Idol contestants but essentially “no-names” in the industry.

If “American Idol” wants to continue past a tenth season, they’ll really have to put out a superstar like Adam Lambert or Kelly Clarkson, otherwise Idol will fizzle out, just like Clay Aiken and Fantasia did.

Of course, “American Idol” could just use its fail safe and announce that it is coming out of the closet. That is what everyone else with a fledging career seems to do. That’s a headline I’d love to see: “American Idol” announces that everyone involved with the show is gay… dawg.”

They need to feature the two biggest successes that have come from the show....Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. If they get one or both ladies as judges, they will get their fans to watch and remind the audience that they were able to produce real talent. We need judges that can sing well and have been in the contestants shoes. These two ladies have proven they have longevity in the business. We do not want judges who can not sing themselves or know little to nothing about singing.

I disagree. The show is about current contestants. The show is tanking because 1. The never should have brought in Kara. 2. Paula Abdul left and 3. Simon Cowell left. The show is finished after this season 10 and that's really a GREAT THING. People are over american and on to shows that are more realistic like Survivor and Amazing race, those type of shows can last forever. Even the biggest stars like Kelly and Carrie haven't reached the level of a Beyonce or a Lady Gaga or a P!nk. When the judges like Simon Cowell continues to make more then the top 10 money earners from idol COMBINED then you know SIMON Cowell is the biggest star Idol has ever produced. He's gone and this show will as well. GREAT!

BTW, Carrie is on idol every single year since she won (multiple times per year) so her making a visit wouldn't help all th much.

I really would hate it if young aspiring singers would lose a platform like this to showcase their talent, or even a show like this to dream about. I agree with the second commenter, however, that Idol became more about the judges than the contestants, and I think that was it's downfall. I got so sick of watching and listening to Paula flirt with Simon, and Kara trying too hard and coming off as superficial and vain. At least Ellen, who wasn't a good judge, had the guts to admit it and bow out, and was always a genuine person. And most of the time, Dawg is too, when he isn't trying to compete with Simon.

Forget it!!! The show is dead!!! Adam Lambert killed it in Season 8. There will never be another Adam!!

I agree, no one can top Adam, Carrie is country she is limited, she doesn't do well outside America, and they keep voting the same type into the winner circle. BORING!! Adam Lambert killed Idol, he is gaining worldwide fame, more so than any other Idol and thats a fact and there will never be another Adam. I am done with Idol, while I am so glad Adam had a chance to be on there, they hit the jackpot and it's like will not happen again. ADam is a once in a generation artist. They should call Idol, country Idol and be done with it

American Idol should focus on Top 40 and leave the country stuff out. The lowering of the age to 15 seems like another mistake. As for finding another Adam Lambert--don't think that is possible. He is the real find of this show.

Forget it. An Adam Lambert comes along every so often and he still didn't win. American Idol audience are middle age women who like their mediocre white guys with guitars who will do well on HAC radio. They are bland and flavorless. They don't get that the younger audience have tuned out because of this. Adam Lambert is a multi generational performer with fans from 10-80yrs old. Even the 80yr olds want some flavor in their sauce.

1. kelly clarkson is an international star. she may not be at the level of Beyonce or Lady Gaga NOW but during the era surrounding her sophmore album she was the biggest pop female singer around. she sold 14 million copies of that album alone and has sold 20 million total with all her releases combined.

2. Adam didn't break the show, the audience broke it by continuing to vote based on morals and popularity rather than singing ability. Adam was/is unique and amazingly talented and he should've won but so should Crystal Bowersox in Season 9. Everytime the audience seemingly 'gets it wrong' people lose a little more interest in the show.

3. the judges need to be eliminated after the initial round of auditions. Once Hollywood week is over and it's put to the public vote the judges should be gone. Also they should do like Dancing with the stars and limit votes to 10/12 (however many contestants are left) votes per phone line and email. If DWTS can do it why can't AI? The unlimited text and calling skews the voting and we end up with lackluster winners.

Adam "killed the show" only because he broke the "4th wall" so to speak. I think Idol succeeded in making its contestants seem like amateurs blossoming into stars. Adam so outdistanced anyone who ever was on the stage that anything else was boring. Like simon said after WLL - only problem is, who could ever top that???

I found many GAY bloggers talk about Lambert. He is the worst Idol ever found on AI. This fame whore completely takes advantage of homosexuality and gossip columns. When he simulated sex with guys on TV, I knew what he tried to do. Disgusting!! This is why I detest AI. The contestant should be scandalous to get attention. Not a singing competition any more! It's a shame that Kelly Clarkson is in the same category with Lambert. Yakkkk!!!

Have you seen a photo of Lambert's CD in Walgreen dumped in a pile of CDs on sale at 3.99? They are so desperate to sell this second rate GaGa CD. You can't find another Lambert? Almost 30 year old gay drag queen? International star? Do you know how much money 19E has wasted to promote him abroad? Without gaining money from music sales? Lambert has earned nothing when you do the math.

The only reason I watched American Idol week after week was to see Adam Lambert. He has talent, gorgeous good looks, and charisma. His cd is spectacular! I have seen him three times in concert, and noone can compare to him. His voice is even better live than recorded. He has milions of fans all over the world. It isn't fair to compare season 9 contestants to Adam. Adam is Adam, and we are lucky to have discovered him. I hope American Idol continues because it's a fun show. Last years contestants are very talented in their own right.

They will never find another Adam Lambert - there is only one Adam Lambert! He is by far the best singer and performer ever to appear on the show!

Haters get a life. Adam Lambert is awesome!

Kelly Clarkson is the greatest Idol of all time. She has proven it over and over. She is the international star not Adam Lambert. The best year of Idol was the first. It was new, fresh, and nobody knew what to expect or if anyone would become a star. Kelly Clarkson made that show. She owns that show. Kelly can sing anything and everything. She is always trying different things when she performs live. She is INCREDIBLE live. Her voice is amazing and gives me chills. I have all four of her albums, and they are all different. She is a true artist. She sings with more emotion than anyone. I have Adam's CD. It is pretty good, but he is too over the top. He is embarrassing. There is only one Kelly Clarkson. She sang for the Pope and the President. Not too many singers have accomplished that. Kelly is queen!!!

"They need to feature the two biggest successes that have come from the show....Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood" ......

Carrie may be the biggest success in America but that is simply because she's a Country artist. The every reason why she isn't internationally successful. Country doesn't well outside of America and only those who resort to selling bubble-gum Country like Taylor Swift or sexed-up Country like Shania Twain have any success. Carrie is an unknown outside of the US.

Kelly on the other hand is the biggest worldwide success the show has produced ........ so far ......... Adam Lambert has achieved international figures and certifications in less than a year that took Kelly three years to achieve.

The only other international successes of any note have been Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer's came as a knock-on effect of her Oscar win rather than her appearance on Idol.

As Simon Cowell has said on several occasions, that is after all what a show like American Idol is about - finding a worldwide star, not someone who can just sell records on their doorstep however many.
