"The Dirty Heads is a mix between Sublime and Eminem." – Interview

A cool new band for the summer brings an even cooler new album. The Dirty Heads, a quasi mix between Sublime and Eminem, recently released its new album, “Any Port In A Storm – Special Edition.”

Q – Where did the name of the band come from?

A - We got our name from are older brothers and friends just calling us that. Jared ended up using it in a song we wrote before we had a name for our band and it just kind of stuck.

Q – First of all, who are the members?

A - Dustin Bushnell – Guitar / Vocals; Jared Watson – Vocals; Jon Olazabal – Percussion; Matt Ochoa – Drums; Dave Forell - Bass

Q – Second, what does each member bring to the band?

A - Different STD’s

Q – When I first heard The Dirty Heads, I thought you sounded similar to Sublime. You’re currently on tour with Sublime with Rome, which are the two surviving members of Sublime and Rome Ramirez. How did this come about?

A - We all work in the same studio and have always run into each other there. We became friends and started helping each other out on songs. One day we just decided to write one together. Rome came over to my house and we sat in the backyard and had some beers and wrote “Lay Me Down.” Now we’re on tour together.

Q – With music stuck in the pop or metal genre thanks to radio, how do you capture an audience that seems to be fueled by “American Idol” and Metallica?

A - I think people have been in need of some good feeling music; a lot of the new music these days has been pretty dark.

Q – Your new album, “Any Port in a Storm,” which is an expanded edition of the 2008 album, comes out April 27th. What should we know about the recording of this album or about it in general that is different from the 2008 release?

A - It has 5 unreleased tracks on it including “Lay Me Down.” It also has some of our older songs we did before we were signed. I think there are 23 tracks and a video for $7.99. You can’t beat that.
