"The Runaways come to life in the new film starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning."

With the new film “The Runaways” building up steam and the original players from the band in support of its upcoming release, there is no reason the film won’t be a monster hit. Front woman Cherie Currie (check out the interview Zoiks! did with her here) has been behind the scenes promoting her book that the movie is based off of.

Currie is now in front of all of this and recently performed live with another up-and-coming band, Girl in a Coma, at SXSW. The band plus Currie played one of The Runaways’ biggest hits, “Cherry Bomb.”

The film focuses on the story of the band, which featured Joan Jett and Lita Ford (check out the interview Zoiks! did with Lita here). With “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart as Jett and Dakota Fanning as Currie, the movie is virtually bringing attention to the original band members, with much of it on Cherie Currie.

The film is set to be released in April of 2010, but you can catch the official The Runaways music video here, not to mention an awesome still of the talented actors that portray the band.

Here’s what is being said about the film:

A. O. Scott from “New York Times” says about “The Runaways.” - "Rock ‘n' roll fans of every gender and generation will identify with this."

Thelma Adams from “US Weekly” praises “The Runaways.” - "This is an anthem to those young women who wouldn't take no for an answer."

Jan Wahl from KCBS AM/FM calls “The Runaways,” “smart, sexy, feisty, tough…I love Rock ‘n’ Roll and I love this movie!"

Loved the movie! It is PULP FICTION meets FOREST GUMP1! The trailer does not do any justice to the film. It is awesome! Michel- instant winner, what an actor. Gifted hand of Floria Sigismondi is seen everywhere. She is a pure talent. The attention given to details- highly seductive photograhy. The zooming into two onions, dog’s poop, cars in the tunnel, camera chasing characters from above- picturesque. Iconic movie.
The ”TWILIGH GIRLS GONE WILD” brought a lot of attention to the film .Immortalized the Runaways band with a younger generation, who sadly, is not allowed in the theatres. R rated picture. Thanks ladies, you are awesome talents. Not only a music film but pure social drama, very graphic. Wow, we did not have such film in a long time!
