"'American Idol' turns the Paige. Miley Cyrus performs too."

Paige Miles gets the boot this week on “American Idol.” She had potentially the worst performance in the history of the show (as far as I can remember at least). Unfortunately for her she’s had laryngitis, but as they say the show must go on and unfortunately for Paige it will - without her.

It is fair to say that Paige wasn’t going to win whether she had gotten sick or not. In the bottom three with Paige were Katie Stevens and Tim Urban. I expected Tim to be there, but I was expecting Andrew Garcia over Katie, but you can’t win them all. Katie, Tim and Andrew had better step it up next week because they’re all on the chopping block.

Miley Cyrus performed tonight. She sat down at a piano and kind of played while she sang a song that was way too big for her voice. I hate doing this because Miley is great at what she does - fun little pop songs. She doesn’t have the greatest voice, but she’s cute and she’s fun, kind of like a young Britney Spears.

If Miley were a contestant on the show I’m pretty sure Simon Cowell would been ripping into her performance, saying that it was a bad choice of song. Miley doesn’t have the big powerful voice that a Mariah Carey has, and the song she was singing required that and I kind of felt bad for her. If she were a contestant she’d probably get voted off after that.

This is the moment when I realize that an unemployed, overweight, bald 30-year-old guy (me) is sitting at his computer at 12:30 in the morning, bad mouthing a seventeen year old Miley Cyrus, one of the biggest stars in American right now. I’m so pathetic.

Truth is I wasn’t a fan of her performance, but Miley is great and I hope nothing but the best for her. Miley has a new movie coming out called “The Last Song” based on a Nicholas Sparks (“The Notebook”) novel. Odds are that Miley will be able to successfully jump from child star to a grown up star (I almost put Adult star, but that wouldn’t have sounded the way I wanted it to).

I’m betting that Miley won’t be going the ways of Lohan or Spears. I see kind of following Zac Efron’s lead and maybe being a female Leonardo DiCaprio, making the successful transition from child star to star. Her dad’s been there before, he knows what to expect. She also had the opportunity to watch what Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan had to go through, so I think she’ll be ok. So now I feel better about saying I wasn’t too crazy about her performance on “Idol” last night.
