"Steven Tyler threatens to sue Aerosmith?"

By Bob Zerull

It has been rumored that Joe Perry and the other non Steven Tyler members of Aerosmith have been looking for a replacement for Steven Tyler. Rumored replacements have been Lenny Kravitz, Paul Rogers, Chris Cornell and Billy Idol. Yes Billy Idol. According to Billboard.com Billy Idol had to miss a meeting with Joe Perry due to a cold. I don’t mind if the members of Aerosmith want to go out on the road with the new singer, as long as they call it something other than Aerosmith. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are Aerosmith.

It had been rumored that Steven Tyler had fallen off the wagon after years of sobriety. In fact Tyler himself checked into an undisclosed location for addiction to pain killers related various surgeries on his feet/legs. Prior to checking into rehab Tyler had been on record as saying he wanted to take the next two years to focus on brand Tyler. Perry and co. didn’t want to sit on the sideline while Tyler was focusing on himself. A few days after making that statement, Tyler showed up at a Joe Perry Project show, plays “Walk This Way” and announces he has no interest in leaving Aerosmith.

Rolling Stone” magazine did a piece with the other four members of Aerosmith (Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer) and they talk about their concern for Tyler’s health and their desire to move on without Tyler. Tyler has however entered rehab and said he’s determined to stay with Aerosmith.

While in rehab, Tyler has shown up at a karaoke night in a club and performed “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” He also went shopping at Home Depot and performed “Dude, Looks Like a Lady” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” over the PA system. Part of me wants to make fun of Tyler for doing this, but how cool would it be if you were shopping at Home Depot and a rock star came in and started performing over the PA system. Even better, what if you were at a karaoke night and a real rock star got up there and performed. That would be awesome.

Yesterday Tyler’s representation sent the rest of Aerosmith a cease and desist order on their search to find a new singer. He doesn’t want to sue the band, but will if he has to. From what I gather, there is going to be a band meeting on February 10th to iron this out. This is exciting news if you’re a fan of Aerosmith. Joe Perry has repeatedly said that Tyler has not been making an effort, now it appears that Tyler is making the effort. Provided they all survive this meeting, I’m looking forward Aerosmith getting back together for a new album and a new tour.

Thoughts?
