"Hey Grammy Awards: Forget Beyonce and Taylor Swift, what about Pink (P!nk)?"

By Bob Zerull

I was told never to begin the opening paragraph of an article with a question. So now that I’ve gotten that sentence out of the way here’s my question, why am I watching the “Grammys”? None of my favorite bands are ever recognized. I don’t understand the categories either. What’s the difference between Album of the Year and Record of the Year?

That said, every now and again there are some cool performances. Green Day had a pretty amazing performance of “American Idiot” a few years back. Tonight it was P!nk that blew me away. No offense to Beyonce whose performance was pretty good especially when she busted into Alanis Morissette’s hit “You Outta Know.” P!nk came out shortly after Beyonce and blew Beyonce out of the water.

At the “MTV Music Awards” P!nk did some acrobatic high flying performance of her hit song “Sober.” At the “Grammys” she performed “Glitter in the Air.” There was this ribbon thing hanging from the ceiling that P!nk swung around in up high while singing. I don’t really know how to describe it, but I’ve seen Motley Crue with dancers on stage doing a similar routine during their song “Glitter.” It’s pretty cool and dangerous at the same time. The difference between what Motley Crue did and P!nk did is that Motley Crue sat there and just played their instruments while this lady put on an amazing ribbon show. P!nk was using her instrument while putting on this amazing show high above the stage.

As a fan of rock and roll I’m more entertained and impressed by musicians on stage playing their instruments than I am of pop stars doing choreographed dances around stage. Usually when pop stars are dancing around stage their lip syncing. This is what makes P!nk performance that much more impressive.

Remember that I’m already upset about the lack of Rock n Roll being included on the Grammies (even though Slash performed with Jamie Foxx). So pretending rock and roll doesn’t exist, I think P!nk is underappreciated compared to the Beyonce’s, Taylor Swift’s and Lady GaGa’s of the world. Her songs are as catchy, her voice is as good if not better as the three mentioned above, but you never hear about her getting 10 nominations.

Unfortunately for P!nk I’m not as popular as Kanye West so my rant about her being underappreciated will probably go unnoticed and therefore not benefit her career (like Taylor Swift). I’m sure her performance alone tonight will garner her a little more appreciation and respect.

Holy cow, Kings of Leon actually won record of the year. I didn’t think they let rock bands win these awards, especially over Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas. I’m writing this article while watching the Grammy’s. Green Day just won rock song of the year. It’s amazing what passes as rock these days. That’s not a shot at Green Day. I like Green Day, but why is it always the same bands getting nominated and winning - Green Day, U2, Bon Jovi etc.?

Dude, if you don't know the difference between Album of the Year and Record of the Year...perhaps you shouldn't be blogging about Pop Culture....there's a distinct difference. Also, Rock bands frequently win the big awards at the Grammys. That said...I completely and totally agree with everything you said about P!nk.

i think her performance at the grammys was one of the best i have ever seen. She was amazing. The weird thing is im not really a pink follower, i def. do not buy her cd's..but i do like some of her stuff. But whoa did she earn respect with me with the daring, artful, sexy perfomace she put on. She looked as if she has been working out! she has never been that in shape! And another thing, all the headlines have been on taylor, and beyonce... I thought beyonces perfomace seemed as if she was trying too hard! it was just weird, it might of been cool if she brought out alanis morrisette and rocked with her...but she failed to let the spot light get off of her for a second. Anyways good job writing good opinions. Kunal

with pink you can actually see the difference between america and the rest of the world. She is highly appreciated all over europe, australia and maybe even asia (??), but the u.s doesn't give a shit!
Just imagine: she toured all year long. Goes home for 6 weeks (to randomly perform at the grammys), then goes back on the road for another 6 months! I think she played like 240 shows last year and will play another 100-like shows this year.
Where was Beyonce last year???
If you don't want her america, we'll take her ;-) ^^
