"Are Pink (P!nk) and Kelly Clarkson the same person?"

By Sean Leary

I've never seen the two of them together in the same spot before. They both have about the same build, the same kind of puggy nose and the same sort of grrrrl powerish attitude that's part Spice Girls and part Joan Jett.

And their songs SOUND EXACTLY ALIKE.

“Please...please... don't leave me...”

“Myyy life.... my life... would suck...would suck... withooooout you...”

“Something something when I'm soooberrrr...”

They all sound the same. Softish, spare verses, big guitar-driven angsty choruses. They're Nirvana with heavy production values and a lot of estrogen anger.

I was listening to the radio at various times over the last week, and of course I have scant idea who I'm listening to because radio stations never identify songs anymore.

Not that I could tell one way or another between various female singers on the dial because ALMOST ALL OF THEM SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME.

You can pretty much divide female pop into four groups:

One: The group that sounds like Sheryl Crow (see Caillat, Colbie, et al)

Two: The group that sounds like Madonna (see Spears, Britney, et al)

Three: The group that sounds like Pink Clarkson (see Pink, Clarkson, et al)

Four: The group that sounds like Kanye West or Jay-Z produced them (see
Hilson, Keri, et al.)

At various points there are a couple of other subgroups, including The Diva Group - Mariah, Celine, et al - and the Quirky Girl Group - Gaga, et al. - but it seems like most of female pop music fits snugly into those four groups up there, with all of the artists within them sounding like same smells from a different nostril.

Some of the songs are good, some of them are mediocre, and some of them reek like teen spirit - the cologne, not the song.

But as I watched the Grammys the other night, I thought, you know who the real stars are today in pop music? The producers and the songwriters, because all the artists are indistinguishable from one another in terms of sound - sounds that the producers and songwriters created for these props to warble.

LOL and we're to take your word seriously?. Kelly & Pink's voice are so easy to differentiate. Pink has the most raw, rough and emotional voice of any female artists I know. And if producers and songwriters are the real star in showbiz like you said, well, PInk is A songwriter and The executive producer of her last 3 albums.
I sometimes just feel like laughing at articles like this, with writers, probably fan of rock music and not into mainstream, turned up their nose at pop culture and pop artists, trying to unleash their "knowledge" to the world..please..take a cup of STFU.

The same build??!!! Are you serious? Well, maybe if you look at it that Kelly is equal to two Pinks, then maybe it makes sense!! But you are right on about their voices. Pink is the original, and Kelly wants so badly to be a bad girl rocker, but doesn't quite get there. She tried it with her original songs CD of hard rock which tanked, and then went back to the Clive Davis mandated soft rock. Guess they really aren't that similar afterall.

you're crazy. Both these girls are unbelievably talented and both write their own hits. Producers my ass.

The only thing they have in common is that they are the two best voices in pop music. Nive try, buddy.

Both songs are written/produced by swedish producer Max Martin an his crew. Start checking the credits on the songs and you´ll notice a pattern. Commonly the songs are co-written with the artists. The artists usually have nothing to do with production and hardly write anything themselves.

Sheesh, you don't have to jump on the guy about it, just share your opinion in a calm manner, yeah? Maturity people, seriously.
As for this ad, I think they have a bit about each other that looks the same, but they're certainly not the same people. Their voices DO sound a looot alike to me. Hearing Pink's "Sober" for the first time, I would have sworn hands down it was Kelly Clarkson. Saying they look / sound alike isn't an insult to their voices or looks, people. Stop being so defensive! :P

LOL . Yeah I don't deny if they're kinda look a like , and their voices is similar . BUT it's TOO DIFFERENT . I am KELLY'S BIG FAN ! so I listen her songs everyday ,and when I hear pink song's oh well , it's different , but I suppose both of them are talented :D

you have got to be kidding.yes the two songs sound alike but no way could it be p!nk. Kelly clarkson is Kelly clarkson.p!nk is Alecia Moore. clarkson can try all she wants to have that edgy kind of sound but just cant do it.p!nk writes from emotion.thats why in 11 years shes been here she only has 5 albums.she writes when she has something to say.both are huge in Australia and yes they have been in pictures together.but they cant be the same person.p!nk has a way more muscular build, different shaped face and Kelly clarkson was still in school when p!nk came out.clarkson says in an interview that in HIGH SCHOOL she listened to don't let me get me every day.P!NKS 2ND ALBUM.i can see what you mean but its not possible

" Pink is the original, and Kelly wants so badly to be a bad girl rocker... She tried it with her original songs CD of hard rock which tanked"

mmmmm, not exactly... P!nk WAS rock, then after Clarkson's songs with Martin/DR.Luke, she decided she wanted that sound too. She has the rock look & acts the part of being edgy, but her songs are Adult Contemporary (which is fine).

P!nk did a rock album (Try This) primarily with a single producer similar to Clarkson's album that "tanked" (each sold about 800k).

Both these girls are talented singers who are adept at writing Lyrics & Melodies, but also rely heavily on good writers/producers to reach anyone outside of their obsessed fan bases.
